The experts at Pilgrim Mat Services strive every day to maintain a high quality level of mat products and services. It’s also very important to remain compliant with the requirements set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Since 1992, the ADA has raised questions regarding the use of mats in public places where entrances and exits must be clear of hazards. Safety and compliance are at the top of the list with Pilgrim Mats and here are three facts to confirm we are supporting what is required of us.
We provide mats that include a stable, firm, and skid-resistant surface and are effective in collecting and containing dirt and moisture.
Sections 4.5.1, 4.5.2 and 4.5.3 of the ADA discuss the stability, firmness, slip-resistance of mats; changes in levels between required inches of thickness and beveled slope requirements; and maximum pile thickness of the rental mats. Pilgrim Mat Services meets all the required ADA standards. Our rental mats also meet the Static Coefficient of Friction (COF) requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Architectural and Transportation Barrier Compliance Board (ATBC). Because our rental mats are designed to meet and exceed all these requirements, they do an excellent job of collecting and containing the dirt, grit and moisture that could contribute to slip and fall accidents.
Our rental mats are not carpets.
Section 4.5.3 requires carpet or carpet tile to be securely attached to the floor surface and any exposed edges should be fastened to the floor as well. Pilgrim Mat Services rental mats are not carpets. Former Assistant Attorney General W. Lee Rawls, United States Department of Justice says “Rental mats are not considered carpeting, and therefore, are not subject to the requirements” of ADA Section 4.5.3.
Our rental mats are properly placed in the workplace and correctly maintained resulting in enhanced accessibility.
Former Assistant Attorney General W. Lee Rawls also stated “If movable floor mats impede access for people with disabilities, they may need to be moved or removed.” It’s important to make sure rental mats are placed correctly to avoid potential trip hazards. Our Professional Mat Service program and experts help to ensure the correct placement of your mats. Please report any rippled or torn mats and remove them immediately.
